Workout Wednesday

image

It all started a couple of months ago with the holidays 2015. Mini me was sleeping almost through the night, and I said it was time to start exercising…push myself even more on a regular basis with the Hourglass Workout (workout program created by Lyzabeth Lopez) http://www.hourglassworkout.com Since I could no longer workout after work (4pm) like I used to (as I pick up mini me at school, play time, diner, bath, bedtime stories etc….) it was time for a change to workout out in the morning at 6am. It is very hard for me to go a day without exercising. When I am on a holiday, I always look for a 30 minutes or 1 hour me time to workout at the park or a backyard. After completing the Hourglass Workout 3 months challenge I kept pushing myself and 6 months later….today the results are in! I wanted to share a little bit of my progress (see pictures below…these are not the best pictures but I was having fun taking them).

I realize that Mom (aka moi) is much healthier, happier when she is able to get some extra push in. Staying in shape and having fun while doing it is what its all about. I would be lost without the Hourglass Workout. For more on HOurglass Workout visit: http://www.hourglassworkout.com

New Project

My partner and I have decided to embark on a journey to remove as many chemicals from our daily lives as is reasonably possible by replacing everyday products with healthier alternatives some of which will be homemade. We will do this gradually by replacing one product and habit at a time. We will share our experience and hopefully some of you will find the information useful. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

How to Say Yes to Early-Morning Workouts.

image

As someone who breaks a sweat before work nearly every single day, I’m often asked, “How do you do it?”

“The key to making it work is to have a strategy, ritual, and reward system,”. I stick to my morning workouts because I follow the same routine every morning, and reward myself after work by doing fun stuff (instead of going to the gym, since I’ve already knocked it out).

When your alarm goes off, do you curse its very existence and hit the snooze button eight times before finally dragging yourself out of bed? While you may not be one of those naturally perky turkeys who happily wakes up an hour before work to slip on their sports bra for a sweat session, if you find you’re skipping out on exercise altogether because you’re too busy or too tired, then you might have to learn to love morning workouts. Here’s how a nonmorning person like yourself can turn into an early-rising morning exerciser.

Tuck yourself in early: You can’t go to bed at midnight and expect to rise and shine at 5 a.m. with barrels of energy for a kick-butt morning workout. Get into the habit of going to bed early enough so you get at least eight hours of zzz’s.
Induce sleepiness: Not sleepy enough to fall asleep early? Try limiting your caffeine during the day, and be finished with your last caffeinated drink by 4 p.m. Keep in mine that I don’t drink coffee and haven’t for more then 10 years. Warm baths, a cup of tea, a calming sleep-inducing yoga sequence, ditching the TV and computer use before bed, eating these foods, and sticking to a regular exercise routine can help you fall asleep more easily and help you have a more restful, solid night of sleep.

Get personal: Find creative ways to inspire morning workouts. Remember, it doesn’t even have to do with the workout — conjure up an image of that cute guy you’ve seen at the gym lately, or get excited about a tasty new breakfast idea you can enjoy post-workout. If you need a bigger push to get you through the actual workout, getting to listen to new songs from your favorite artist or the next chapter in that riveting book on tape might be just the thing. Or maybe the excitement of using new sneakers or trying a different running route. Or take a selfie after each workout to see your progress. If you have something you’re looking forward to once you wake up, you’ll find it impossible not to get out of bed.

Make a date: You know you love working out and Hourglass Workout offers classes at 6 a.m. Make an appointment with an Hourglass Workout trainer (www.hourglassworkout.com) or plan to meet a fitness buddy at the park to go for a run. Scheduling morning workouts with specific times is a surefire way to get you there.

Go ahead and reward: Either give yourself a little treat after each morning workout or make a goal to exercise every day, Monday through Friday and on the last day, buy yourself a new fitness top, get a pedicure, or go to the movies with a friend. Rewards are huge motivators, and thinking about the pleasure that comes after your hard work may give you that emotional push out of bed.
